This has been on my mind for a while now…We are living in a time where people have become so comfortable doing the wrong thing that it no longer even looks wrong to them. What once would have convicted people now gets celebrated, defended, and accepted as normal.
The scary part is that it usually does not happen all at once.
It starts with little things.
One small compromise. One small decision. One small excuse. And if we are not careful, what once bothered our spirit slowly becomes something we no longer think twice about. Over time, the wrong thing starts to feel normal simply because everyone around us accepts it.
That is dangerous spiritually.
As Christians, we have to be careful not to let the world shape what we accept as right. Just because something has become common does not mean it is Christlike. Just because everyone is doing it does not mean God approves of it.
What is also interesting is how people can get upset when someone simply says something is wrong. Sometimes people become so comfortable with certain behaviors that honesty feels offensive to them. Instead of reflecting on what was said, they attack the person speaking the truth.
We now live in a time where telling the truth about certain things can get you criticized, rejected, or labeled judgmental.
The world will normalize almost anything if it is repeated long enough.
What used to be shocking is now entertainment. What used to be private is now public. What used to be called wrong is now defended as freedom. And little by little, people stop feeling conviction because they have gotten comfortable.
That is why we must guard our hearts and stay connected to God. We cannot allow culture to become our compass. The Word of God must remain our standard.
Sometimes the enemy does not pull people away from God with one big decision. Sometimes it happens through small compromises repeated over time until the person no longer recognizes how far they have drifted.
We have to pay attention to the little things.
The small habits.
The small conversations.
The small compromises.
The things we excuse because “everybody does it.”
As believers, we are called to live differently. Not perfectly, but prayerfully. Not carelessly, but consciously. We should always be asking ourselves if our actions reflect Christ or simply reflect the culture around us.
Just because something has become normal does not mean it is right.
We must be careful not to get so comfortable with wrong that we no longer recognize it.
The Bible says,
“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.”— Isaiah 5:20 NIV
