I was watching a Hallmark movie the other day, and one of the actors talked about defining moments in one’s life which had me thinking about the defining moments in my life.
Well, there was the death of my parents, the birth of each child, marriages, divorce, retirement, graduations and the big solo move. I guess… my solo move was a major defining moment because I have never lived alone, ever, ever.
Defining moments in one’s life refer to significant events or experiences that have a profound impact on an individual’s identity, beliefs, and future direction. These moments often lead to a change in perspective, shape personal values, or influence major life decisions. Defining moments can be positive or negative and can occur in various contexts.
So for me, the solo move was positive. I truly believe in my heart of hearts that God made that solo move happen. I feel He wanted me in a place where He could spend quiet time with me alone, and so that He could pour into me. I feel like He’s getting me ready for the next assignment (whatever that may be).
When I think about it, even Jesus spent time alone with God. The Bible tells us “Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.”
— Mark 1:35
“Jesus made a point of taking time to be with His Heavenly Father. This was His priority, and the same should be true for us. In fact, there should never be a day that we fail to open His word and ask Him to speak to our hearts through prayer. When we rushed through life and bypass Him, we will face disappointment and pressure beyond our ability to handle it” (Charles Stanley).
My Brothers and Sisters do you hear me? What are your defining moments in life, and how have they left a lasting imprint on who you are and how you see God, or the world?
