Staying Focused

Written by Kim Johnson

Have you ever noticed that when life is going great, a distraction always enters the mix, especially if you’re making a major move. And, doesn’t it always seem that the devil is trying to do what he can to make you feel miserable, especially when you are the most happiest and at peace.

Case in point, I was about to make a major move, was truly happy about my plans too. Super duper excited, and all of a sudden the love of my life calls from out of nowhere. We are not together, but when he calls it throws me off balance and it takes me a moment to recover. I thank God that I recognized the mission and was able to deflect the scheme of the enemy (the brother is not Satan just the tool used by him to interrupt my happiness that day).

Moreover, we gotta stay focused on God and pray for discernment, because Satan is busy. Even in the beginning of time the enemy was busy trying to destroy God’s children by any means necessary. Scripture tells us, Satan tempted Eve with fruit, and she was convinced. Eve saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.”
— ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3:6-7‬‬

The thing is, “Satan flashes the newer, bigger and seemingly better things of this world in front of us, trying to lure us into thinking we must have it. He tempts us to think: This will make me fulfilled. This will make me happy. And then it wears out, breaks down, gets old and reveals just how temporary every material thing is” (Lysa Terkeurst).

My Brothers and Sisters do you hear me? Stay focused on God!
